Academic partners

The platform technology of SeSaM-Biotech was initially validated in the group of Prof. Schwaneberg, where it was first developed. However, here at SeSaM-Biotech we believe that academic collaborations are very important. This is why we have tried to expand our academic networkds through many collaborations for the validation of our platform technology in various fields. Moreover, our academic partners contribute to the further development of the SeSaM technology. Here, we offer an overview of our academic partners and their contribution to the science & technology of SeSaM-Biotech.

Prof. Dr. Garabed Antranikian
Prof. Dr. Garabed Antranikian
Professor Technical Microbiology

Prof. Antranikian is an academic cooperation partner in our BMBF funded project for the development of a SeSaM mutagenesis kit.

He is a professor in the Institute for Technical Microbiology Hamburg-Harburg. His research is dedicated to life under extreme conditions. He and his group aim to isolate, characterize and apply extremophilic microorganisms which can grow at temperatures from the freezing point of water up to 103°C, at pH values lower than 4 or higher than 9 or at salt concentrations of up to 30%.

Prof. Dr. Ulrich Schwaneberg
Prof. Dr. Ulrich Schwaneberg
Professor of Biochemical Engineering

Prof. Ulrich Schwaneberg is the inventor of SeSaM method and our research partner in the validation and advancement of SeSaM technology through his research group at RWTH Aachen. This ensures continuous innovation in the products and services that we can provide to our customers. We are currently involved with him in a BMBF funded project for the development of a SeSaM mutagenesis kit that will make SeSaM innovation available in every directed evolution lab.

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Streit
Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Streit
Professor Microbiology

Prof. Streit holds a position at Hamburg University. His main research interests are: molecular enzyme technology, biocatalysts from the metagenome, molecular and ecological aspects of bacteria in biofilms, comparative genome analysis and bacterial genetics and physiology.

Together with him we had a success story in the evolution of a metagenomic cellulase for increased activity in ionic liquids (see Scientific publications).
